One of our favorite places to backpack is in Big Bend National Park on the USA/Mexico border. We’ve spent days at the mouth of Santa Elena Canyon. At times the water has been raging and at other times so low we had to turn a boat on it’s side to drag it through boulders normally 20 feet under the surface of the river. Before homeland security closed the border you could cross the river and savor the local flavors in Mexico. Thoughts of the Rio Grande were in mind when I painted Pepper Canyon.
