Remembering Family was commissioned as a gift. The client liked the Winds of Time with pictures floating through the painting. The memories include two old friends (Dad and Uncle) remembered. When they were together, they enjoyed Chianti wine with cheese and apples. There are parents, young and old, a young child, a championship dog, a westie, echinacea, the city park that the family had established and the family farm.

Tribute to Paul Prudhomme
- Oil on Canvas
- 12″ x 9″
- In the collection of DJ
As part of a New Orleans cooking class, I visited the office and warehouse of Chef Paul Prudhomme. A giant of a man who charmed us with his stories of growing up in Louisiana. Our visit was interrupted several times by a person bearing a silver tray covered with a white linen napkin. Chef Prudhomme paused in his storytelling, sampled the food, commented on what it needed, then returned his attention to us. The warehouse was filled with wooden barrels full of seasonings. The smells were exquisite. There was no chemistry lab here, just Chef Prudhomme’s palate. I showed him my work and he told me “how fortunate I was to see beauty in what so many others take as mundane in life.” I am lucky and it’s nice to be reminded occasionally.

Red Wine and Chocolates

The still life set-up for Red Wine and Chocolates lived in my studio for months. I worked on this large canvas and some other smaller paintings at the same time. The rug, purchased at an estate sale, is the same used in the background of Romance. The tan and beige scarf was given to me by Rob after our son’s birth so I could decently breastfeed in public. The wedding ring patterned quilt came from my mother. Grandpa Bacon’s silk robe lies on the floor. One young visitor to my studio had no idea of the importance of keeping things in place. She immediately picked up the robe, put it on and said, “Cool!”. I love her anyway. The bird’s eye view allows the fabrics to fill the canvas, creating a casual, romantic and intimate space.
